I admit I have been a bit slow in publishing this post and I haven’t actually been around on the blog much recently. I have been writing my new book, Wanted You More, and have been more active on my Facebook page than I have here. I’m sorry about that, I hope you can all forgive me?!
I wanted to tell you about my first ever book signing. I have never attended one as a reader or as an author until July 2015. I was honoured to be invited to attend Second City Signing as an author and I had the most wonderful time, I honestly couldn’t have asked for it to go better.
As a sufferer of anxiety, I built it up in my mind that the experience would overwhelm me, but I had long enough to prepare and get myself in the right mindset for the day itself. I am so glad I did.
I woke up on the morning of July 18th in a hotel in Birmingham with my friend Justine. I was awake early and excited. The anticipation of the day ahead was still a nagging doubt at the back of my mind, and although that was the case, I had to just brave it, pull up my big girl panties and go and show my face to the readers.
I was awestruck when I got to the room. I was sat opposite Jodi Ellen Malpas and Sophie Jackson, I was fan-girling majorly.
My assistant helped me to get my table ready and just like that, I was an author, ready to greet the readers, some new to my books and some that have been with me throughout my journey. It was ah-may-zing!! I signed books, gave away swag, chatted to people and posed for photographs. Having never really liked having my photo being taken, that was one of the things I was least looking forward to – but it turned out I didn’t mind whatsoever.
I had hoped to get round to visit other authors both in my room and in others (there were several rooms to accommodate the amount of attending authors), but as it turned out, I didn’t really have much time. I didn’t get out of the Legends Lounge, where I was based. I didn’t even get time to sit down and eat my lunch until all the other authors were packing away at the end of the day. I did manage to have a break here and there to go and visit some other lovely authors in the Legends Lounge though. It was one of the busiest days of my life. The experience was thrilling. I was on a major high and I don’t think I stopped buzzing for several days afterwards.
For all my worrying that my anxiety would cripple me, I had a day that was *mostly* free from worry. I had a little wobble at the beginning of the day, but friends and the organiser, Cassie, got me through it.
I am so very thankful that Cassie invited me to attend such a marvellous event and I cannot express the depth of my gratitude for her taking a chance on a newbie author such as myself.
In all, a wonderful day was had. I left with 74 signed books, a major swag haul and possibly some of the best photos I have ever been in. I squealed with joy as Sophie Jackson posed for a photo with me, as she held a copy of one of my books and I held hers. I was lucky enough to have my photo taken with JEM too, she is SO gorgeous! Plenty of other delightful authors came and had photos with me and so did many readers.
I might have been on my feet for 99.9999% of the day, my back might have been aching, my leg may have been taking the strain, but I was so happy that the aches and pains of the day were washed away as I went for a meal with Justine and author Carrie Anne Ward after getting back to the hotel. I ate the most wonderful streak I’ve ever tasted and washed it down with a long island iced tea. To say that was the cherry on top of the cake…
Here are some of the photos from one of the best days I can ever remember having…
Thank you to everyone who came and saw me that day. I want you to know I appreciate every single one of you.
I’m here to share with you the most stunning of my book covers. Ashley Byland, creator of the cover for NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST TIME, has worked her magic again. She has brought Alyssa and Chase to life. Where I gave them life in the pages, she gave them faces to their names. And here they are… I present you READY TO LOVE AGAIN…
Here’s the front for you to see more clearly how stunning it truly it is…
I am so excited for the release of this book, which will be on April 14th 2015, published by Limitless Publishing.
For Alyssa Young, life has never been easy. But the hardest thing of all was two years ago when her husband Ethan committed suicide…
Moving town was her only option, she had to get out of the town where she grew up and all the buildings and people reminded her of what she had lost.
She found a new job at Emerging Butterfly Publishing House and that was where she met editor, Chase Williams.
Although she has no romantic interest in him, he pursues her…
Of course he’s good looking. He’s also smart, funny, and she loves spending time with him. But Alyssa can’t put the past to rest.
He wants Alyssa to open up to him and fall in love with him the way he fell for her the moment he met her.
Can Chase convince Alyssa that the time is right and she’s ready to love again?
*This book is The Sweet Romance Series Book 2 but can be read as a stand-alone novel*
I thought it was about time I let everyone in on the fact that I will be an attending author at a huge signing event in July 2015. It’s called Second City Signing and will be held at St Andrews in Birmingham.
I am so excited, I literally can’t stop thinking about all the awesome people I am going to meet, authors and readers alike.
And, would you believe it, we have the one and only JEM attending!! I mean seriously guys, Jodi Ellen Malpas? *fan-girls around*
As you can see, I will be signing on Saturday 18th July only, so if you want to come and see me, make sure to get your ticket!
Ticket prices can be found here.
In the new year, I will be opening up pre-ordering for my book(s). If you pre-order a copy of one or more of my books, you will get exclusive SWAG that no-one else will get!!
I will have copies of Nothing Like The First Time and Ready To Love Again with me.
I really hope to see you all there. It couldn’t be more surreal for me. Little old me, at a signing with some amazing authors. And I’m not just going as a reader, but an author. I am so overjoyed to be part of such an event!
Bye for now!
Title: NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST TIME
Author: Keren Hughes
Publication Date: May 20th 2014
Publishers: Limitless Publishing
I have had some wonderful reviews on Goodreads so far. Here are some of the comments by readers:
“Fantastic book! The Characters are amazing! They work so well together and compliment one another! Carly and Grey’s story is one filled with love, heartache, a little turmoil, redemption, and a couple of obstacles thrown into the mix! This book has all you could want in story and more!” – Nikkii Tobler.
“The storyline was great, as most books in this genre seem to have the characters meet, get together, some drama happens to split them up, they try to get over each other, realise they belong with each other, get back together….whereas this starts after a split and then they get together and nothing gets in the way, and the characters are understanding with each other when the drama happens, it’s kinda refreshing.
I can’t wait to read more from Keren 🙂 Well done on another great book.” – Lisa Harwood.
“This book really makes you believe in love forever and happy endings.” – Kay Burnsworth.
“If I had to sum it up with one word, I would say magical. This book has everything you need in a romance novel, love, heartbreak and even a little suspense. I would recommend this book to everyone and I will” – Vikki Love.
“A beautiful story about how first love can conquer all,no matter the time that passes there is true first love out there. You just need to be patient and not give up and no matter what obstacles that you are faced with love can conquer all in the end.” – Sam Morris
So, it seems that people are enjoying it so far. Why don’t you grab a copy and see for yourself.

Nothing Like the First Time
By: Keren Hughes
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Coming May 20th, 2014
Carly Summers and Greyston Sterling were each other’s first kiss, first sexual experience, first love, first everything…
They were a match made in Heaven, that was, until Grey took a job as a freelance photographer which took him to the other side of the world. When it came down to a choice between his career and his girl – he chose his career.
Now, 10 years later, Grey’s back in town and wants to see if they can rekindle what they had all those years ago. Carly has had relationships but nothing that lasted. No one ever compared to Grey.
But how can they rekindle things if he’s engaged to somebody else?
“So your career comes before me?” I asked, already knowing the answer. “At least look me in the eye and answer me, it’s the least you owe me Grey.”
“I don’t want to have to choose Carls,” he said as he caught my eye. “I just don’t want to miss out on the experience of a lifetime. I get to see amazing things, capture them on film while I experience the different cultures.”
“Just answer the question Grey – you want your career more than you want me.” I started to cry again, I had wanted to get through this without crying but I was fooling myself when I thought that.
“I’m sorry Carls,” he said as he took my hand into his. “I love you, I always will. But this is the opportunity of a lifetime, it may never happen again. I need to do this. I’m not making a conscious choice to put you second but if you weren’t so stubborn, you’d come with me like I asked.”
About the Author:
Keren lives in the UK and is an avid bookworm; she has been since she read things like Black Beauty, What Katy Did and The Hobbit as a child. Her first real memories of reading are the summers she used to lie on her bed and re-read What Katy Did and What Katy Did Next.
Over the years she has come to realise that she is a bit OCD about books. They have to be in perfect condition without the slightest bit of damage.
She is a book reviewer and has been for the past 18 months or so.
The idea for Stolen came to her one day but she never thought she’d actually write it let alone publish it. If it wasn’t for her author friend Kira Saito, the idea would still be stuck in her head not on paper. But constant love and support from Kira is why you are now able to read Stolen.
Stolen is her first novel but now that she’s written one, she knows she needs to write more. There will be one sequel, called Freed which will be from Bodhi’s POV. This will be set a couple of years on.
Then, the plan is for her to write either NA or Adult Contemporary Romances. She has a big crush on Lady Antebellum’s music at the moment and their songs have inspired a few book ideas.
Keren loves hearing from her readers and if you want to contact her, you can do so at any of the following places:
