So as the title says, I have more exciting news. On June 27th, my co-author Jodie Harrold and I signed the contract with Black Velvet Seductions for our book baby, More Than Words.
I am utterly overjoyed. This book is different for me. It’s the first and only time I have co-written, which I’ll admit felt totally weird. I thought it would be weird relinquishing control of one character to someone else, but I didn’t. It was actually pretty cool to focus on only fleshing out one main character and their background. With my anxiety, I never know how I’ll react to new situations, but I did it. It’s also the longest book I’ve ever been a part of writing, at roughly 95,000 words.
I can’t wait for people to meet Trey and Evie. We don’t have an official blurb yet, but you’ll be the first to know when we do.
On the same day, I signed two more contracts; one for Nothing Like The First Time and one for Ready To Love Again. Both were previously published with Limitless Publishing. They’ve been edited to be in first person present tense, rather than past tense and they will both get brand spanking new covers. I can’t wait!
Keep up to date with all things book related over on my Facebook page:
Once these boxes are gone, that’s it. I won’t be doing book boxes again for the foreseeable future, so make sure you don’t miss out. I don’t have a date that this order form closes, merely when it hits 15 orders. The form will then be closed and people will be invoiced. Please understand this is a first come, first served offer and if you do not pay the invoice, your box won’t be secured and will be offered to someone else on the list. That said, there is some amazing swag included (see pics below)
Included is: a special edition signed copy of OoTA which features artwork unseen in the eBook (drawn by Jodie Harrold, my co-author for More Than Words), a homemade cocktail flavoured lip balm, a silicone wristband, an OoTA sticker, a pack of 5 exclusive teaser postcards, a magnet, one of two styles of pen, a pack of 2 badges (#TeamNate & #HealingTears), a Blank Canvas sticker, a handmade vial of phoenix tears key ring, a handmade cover necklace and a matching bookmark. This swag will never be reproduced and is only available in the box.
There are a couple of reasons for my radio silence; I haven’t been very active on social media at all since my Nan passed away in December. I have been struggling with losing her as she was the mother-figure in my life.
After losing her, I struggled to focus on reading a book, never mind anything else. So I went silent. My head was fuzzy and I couldn’t even recall conversations I’d had with people. My time was spent arranging her funeral and then looking after my son over the Christmas period, as he was struggling with losing his great-nan. Truth is, we’re still struggling with it, but we’re taking baby-steps, one foot forward at a time, trying to learn to navigate a world without her in it.
When I finally managed to start reading again, I read Tears of Ink by Anna Bloom and then Tears of Glass. I got totally immersed in the fictional world again and it felt good.
Upon starting to read again, suddenly I had the urge to write again. I’d had an idea on the back burner and that’s the second reason for radio silence. I spent just under two weeks writing Stone and Joss’s story ‘Husband Material.’ As normal when I write, I created a Spotify playlist and top of that list was a song that inspired me, made me think of Nan and how proud she was of me and my writing. She wouldn’t have wanted me to give up, so I didn’t. If you haven’t heard High Hopes by Panic! at The Disco, then you really should. It’s the best.Listen here.
I literally listened to that song repeatedly every day. In my case, it’s not “mama said don’t give up, it’s a little complicated,” for me, it’s my Nan. And I have to keep my hopes high. In life as well as in my writing.
In the meantime while I was writing Husband Material, my publisher, Black Velvet Seductions were getting my upcoming release Out of The Ashes ready for release and I was either making swag to go with it, or graphics, or ordering swag I can’t make by hand.
So where am I in my writing? Well, I am currently waiting for Stolen (my first book which is a YA Paranormal Romance) to be re-released, this time with BVS instead of its previous home with Limitless Publishing. Also, I am waiting for Husband Material to release. I absolutely adore Josslyn and Stone, they are amazing, even if I say so myself. Their story starts out with a fake marriage, but will they end up with a HEA or not? You’ll have to wait and see!
And to top it all off, I’ve just signed another contract with BVS, this time to publish something completely new for me, an MM romance called Paper Hearts. Winter and Devlyn stole my heart and I love my boys to bits. I hope you guys will too. I’ll let you know more about this, and each other release as and when the time comes.
I’ve submitted two of my books previously with Limitless Publishing, to see if Ric at BVS wants them so at the moment, Nothing Like The First Time and Ready To Love Again are currently unpublished, until such time as BVS releases them or I self-publish them.
And of course there’s my latest release, Out of The Ashes, which can be purchased here: Out of The Ashes
What am I doing now? Well, I’m actually taking a break from writing as I have 6 releases pending. BUT, a plot bunny came to play, so I’m slowly but surely writing something completely new to me. More about that when the time comes.
But before then, there’s a project I am very proud of. I co-wrote for the first time ever and Jodie has written for the first time. We’re really hoping to bring you our book More Than Words soon. We don’t have a proper blurb yet, but I’ll tell you a little something. It’s based on two characters with troubled pasts and flashbacks to domestic violence. Evie is a single parent who’s had to uproot her and her daughter Maya’s lives to escape a violent partner. She owns her own bakery, Queen of Tarts and that’s where she first meets Trey.
Trey is a solictor with a chequered past. He and his sister Leah bounced around from one foster home to another, never staying anywhere very long. The families that took them in were…well, let’s just say, they weren’t best placed to have children. They were violent and abusive. So Trey wanted to study law and become a solicitor to help people like him and Leah to stop falling through the cracks in a broken system.
While you’re waiting for news on my pending releases, you can check out my other books as listed below; just click the universal links.
Thank you for sticking around even though I haven’t been very active. I’m back now and want to do things differently. I want to be more active on here and over on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Come and follow me, I don’t bite…much! 😉
I am so over the moon that release day is finally here. I’ve been dying for OoTA to release, for you guys to meet Nate and Jenna, and even Levi.
Writing this book was such a joy for the most part, but then one scene really got me crying as I was writing it. I remember my friend Jodie reading it, and my PA Kara too, they said it was so heartbreaking and yet they loved every minute of this book. My only hope is that you guys love it just as much.
I want to thank so many people for helping me with this release. Obviously, I want to thank Kara for being my kick-A PA and for everything she’s done for me with each release, but especially this one. Jodie, for loving Nate and Jenna and truly understanding this book on a deeper level. Donna Payne Latham for helping me find the perfect picture to embody Nate and Jenna. Wander Aguiar for being the amazing photog he is and capturing the perfect cover photo. Jessica Greeley for taking the photo and making it into my favourite cover yet. Richard Savage at BVS for always believing in me and my writing, and for publishing OoTA. I want to thank my BETA readers for all the love and support they gave me along the way.
Thank you to everyone who has already bought their copy, and have Nate and Jenna on their kindles waiting for them. Thank you to each and every person who has made this incredible journey possible for me as an author. I love you all.

I’m having a release day giveaway over on Facebook. The prize is an exclusive, limited edition OoTA book box. It will contain a signed copy of the book, exclusive swag and a pair of stud earring from Steffans. Come on over and enter:
As some of you may already be aware, my books Nothing Like The First Time and Ready To Love Again are not currently published on Amazon any longer. This is because I have gotten the rights back from Limitless Publishing and they have been submitted to Black Velvet Seductions, my second publisher.
If Ric wants them, then they will be republished, but I can’t say when at this point. If he doesn’t want them, then I will try my best to self-publish as soon as I hear back. Either way, these books will become available again, with some slight alterations to the stories and with brand new covers. They will also no longer be The Sweet Romance Series, because they don’t have any cross-over characters or anything.
Stolen is also unpublished on Amazon, but this is under contract with BVS, so will be published at some point with a brand new cover. There are no alterations to the story, so if you’ve read it, then there’s no need to buy it again unless you really want to.
I am awaiting publication of my newest book, which will be released on June 20th. Out of The Ashes has the most stunning cover. It’s always been a dream of mine to have a cover photo from Wander Aguiar Photography and now that dream has come true.
This cover features Robert W and Tiffany Robinson. It couldn’t be more perfect for Nate and Nix. If you want to know more about this book, or to preorder a copy at a special price of only 99p, then find it here:
I am also awaiting publication of Husband Material. It’s a book I absolutely love, about two people who meet in an airport on their way home to their families for Christmas, and they decide to pretend to be a couple to stop their parents from meddling in their love lives. What they didn’t expect was the real feelings that begin to blossom. I don’t have an official blurb for this one yet, but stay tuned.
In all, I have 6 books pending publication right now, so I am taking a break from writing to read all the books I’m missing out on by my favourite authors. Whether they are all published by BVS or some end up self-published, I’ll let you know and you will be seeing them as soon as humanly possible.
Though I said I was taking a break, a plot bunny came to pay me a visit and so I have a few thousand words written on a new rom-com—something I’ve never tried writing before—called Cupid’s Arrow. I’m taking my time with it because I have all the other books lined up first. But for anyone wanting a sneak peek…
“There needs to be like a ‘Rate Your Ex’ type of website where you can look a guy up and see what his exes have said about him. Like whether he has any bad habits like belching the alphabet, eating in bed and leaving a trail of crumbs or whether he’s a total slob who sits in front of the tv playing on his games console all day. Or maybe some website where you can input things like their name and date of birth, and it lists whether he’s ever broken the law or something. We need to be able to weed out the good from the bad, or the not-so-bad from the worst. I don’t know, there should just be something, you know. Mia? Hello, are you still listening?” I say as I snap my fingers in front of her glazed over stare.
“So you want to invade a guy’s right to privacy because you want to know upfront before dating a loser?” she asks as she pins me with a pointed look.
“I’d be down for that,” she butts in.
“Y-you would?” I ask, surprised that my long-suffering BFF would even consider such an idea. Of the two of us, she is the far more trusting. But then she used Cupid’s Arrow and found her soul mate.
I, however, refuse to ever use my damn dating agency again.
It might be the best in the city. We might have a one-hundred per cent success rate. But that’s for other people, not for me. No, I’ve tried it and found loser after loser at the other end of the app.
“You, you Mia Bondurrant would be up for invading someone’s privacy? How about your rule? You know the one; a person is entitled to their secrets.”
“Not secrets that could hurt another person though. Think about it, what if they have a criminal record? You’d want to know in advance right, so you didn’t end up dating him only to find out later? I mean, he could be a serial killer,” she says with a burst of laughter, “So yeah, they’re entitled to some secrets, but there’s something to be said for knowing all the big things ahead of dating them.”
She twirls her hair around her finger—today it’s beautifully curly and frames her face in a way that makes me jealous. I can never get my hair to look that good—and pops her bubblegum with a loud smack of her pouty lips.
And that’s about all for now, so keep your eyes peeled on June 20th for my OoTA Release Day Giceaway which will feature a signed copy of the book, swag, a pair of gorgeous earrings from Steffans and a book sleeve made to look like the book by Book Besties UK.
Thank you for your support on my journey as an author. It is always and will always remain the very best thing I could wish for.

~Home isn’t a physical place, it’s the place where your heart beats.~ Drew Wright always said he had the “reverse Midas touch”; everything he touched turned to shit instead of gold. As a child, he was beaten, neglected, and abused by drug addicted parents whose next fix was more important than having food in the cupboard. Plagued by flashbacks of a past that haunts him, he’s worked hard to become a paramedic and help others often caught in the grip of the same trauma he experienced. After being set up on a blind date with the love of his life he thought he’d lost, it seemed his luck was turning and fate was giving him a second chance. Happily married with two children, he has everything he ever dreamed of. But then one tragic moment throws his world into upheaval and lands Drew in the middle of a battle to hang on to the life he loves. Can he separate the past from the present and save his future? Or will the demons that have stalked him his whole life finally devour him?
It’s that time again, I have a new cover to share with you. I’m used to only releasing one book per year, but this year, I have a second release coming soon. This book is called Safe. It’s a romance, but it may contain things that are potential triggers for some readers. It talks about things that may be a little upsetting. But like I say, the main theme of the story is still romance. It’s just that the main character, Elise, has been through a lot in her life; not all of it good.
The two main characters, Elise and Drew are based on real people I know and some of the events are real. I won’t reveal their identities, I’m just glad I was allowed to tell a story that I felt needed to be told. No, it’s not all real life, most of it is fictional; it gives them an ending they never got in real life, but I am hopeful one day they will, whether it’s together or with other people, I want them to be happy.
Anyway, on to the cover reveal… Here we see the full wrap…
Author: Keren Hughes
Publisher: Black Velvet Seductions
In every way Elise is a survivor.
As a child, she was abused by the first man she trusted completely.
As a teenager, she was manipulated mentally and physically by a man, to the point that she could not see just how bad their relationship was. She ended up too scared to stay, but even more scared to leave.
Having suffered for years at the hands of men she trusted, she met Jensen. Finally, she felt that she had someone good in her life. Their relationship was all too brief, and when it ended she built a wall around her heart. How could she ever trust a man again?
Elise is a single disabled mom and it was becoming all too clear to her that men could not see past her disability. Forsaking the love of men, she concentrated on her son, Caleb. It was the one thing she knew she could do right. Her love for Caleb was beyond measure. He was her whole world. However, Elise’s best friend Sam had other ideas, and set her up on a blind date with an extremely hot paramedic.
With so much hurt in her past, she was not sure if she was strong enough to face rejection again. Could she truly open her heart again to another? Could Elise finally find her safe-haven in his arms, or would he just add another scar to her soul?
Thank you to all who have helped make my birthday a special day today by sharing my cover. I couldn’t do all this without you guys supporting me! I’ll have more news on when ARCs will be available soon, but for now, I have a Google Doc sign-up if you are interested in reviewing SAFE. Sign up here!
So it’s finally time to officially unveil my newest cover for my upcoming release, My Best Friend’s Fiancé. I have to say, Deranged Doctor Design really knocked this one out of the park. It’s the first cover of mine that has been designed by them and I am blown away. I was so excited when it landed in my inbox and now I get to share it with the people that mean the most to me, my readers… that means YOU!
Are you ready? Here it comes… 3…2…1… *ta-da*
What do you think? Isn’t it a beauty?!
Here is the blurb for MBFF:
The heart wants what it wants right? But what if it wants something it can never have?
I’m in love, and it should feel amazing…except, it doesn’t. The problem is, the guy I’m in love with happens to be my best friend’s fiancé.
It’s wrong on so many levels. If there was any way I could stop my growing feelings toward the one man who’s completely off limits, I would…but I can’t.
It’s insane, a disaster waiting to happen. The only thing that could make this entire situation worse is if the feeling was mutual—which it isn’t…is it?
Release Day is May 30th but the preorder link will go live on May 20th. Don’t wait to grab your copy of this forbidden romance story, Reid Marks is waiting for you!
If you can’t wait… here are some teasers to whet your appetite!
